Presentation Evening
Droitwich Spa Veterans Football Club
Awards Night Season 2008/09
Club members met at St Andrews Hotel on 4th September to relive the Krakow tour through a presentation from Bob Clack and present the awards for the outgoing season.
The following received awards and recognition for what they have done for the club over the past 12 months.
1. John Armstrong receives a carriage clock for his 65th birthday in appreciation from the football club. John is one of the early members of the club, attending all of our European tours, apart from the first one in Bad Ems in 1995 when he had to attend a wedding (not his, so no dispensation offered) John, known in the early days as “Exocet” for his tackling skills, organised two of our European tours to Antwerp and Zandvoort in Holland. John also helped find a number of over 50s football clubs across the country to play against and has contributed in many ways to the life of the club

2. Dave Forletta receives The Don Cawley Memorial Trophy. Don was an active club member who died suddenly in October 2008. Dave organised a game between Droitwich Spa Veterans FC and an invitation 11 made up of players who knew Don. The cup was presented to Dave as manager of the winning side. This game is going to be an annual event in memory of Don and his contributions to the club.

3. Mick Gorman, as tour organiser for 2009, receives a trophy presented to the club by Klub Sportowy “Borek” in Krakow Poland. Both our fixtures in Poland were played against Borek sides. The polish club gave us a fantastic reception and our club flag still stands in their club house.

4. Dave Price receiving top goal scorer of the season 2008/09

5. Michael Chang receiving league player of the season award 2008/09

6. Frank Stacey receiving over 50s player of the season award 2008/09

7. The Gaff of the Season 2008/09 award went to Phil Walters for misplacing the nets, pegs, goal posts and his sanity.

8. The embarrassing moment of the season 2008/09 award went to Andy Frapwell for a number of mishaps, the most notable being his novel warm up routine before one of the games in Krakow.

9. The Quote of the season 2008/09 award went to Maurice Murphy for a number of memorable quotes. The most noted one being as manager “You’ve had a brilliant first half Seamus, so I’m taking you off for the second half.”

10. Club Member of the season 2008/09 award went to Mick Gorman for his organising of the Krakow tour in 2009, his proposals for developing a new web site for the club and his enthusiasm for developing a programme of social activities for the club over the next three years.

In addition, Martin Dobbs won the Friendly Team Player of the Season award 2008/09 and Peter Croney won the Outstanding Goal of the Season award 2008/09 for a goal he scored against an Italian side which played in Droitwich in July 2009, as part of a veteran’s football tournament. Both club members were unable to attend the awards night, (so no photos) and in their absence praise and adoration was heaped on their personage throughout the evening by other club members.
